Laundry Seamstress
The Laundry Seamstress is responsible for repairing, altering, and maintaining garments, uniforms, linen, and textile products to ensure they meet company quality standards and customer requirements. The role supports efficient laundry operations by inspecting items for damage and performing timely repairs to extend textile life and maintain presentation standards.

- Hourly rate - $29.49 + 12% super
Ensign Services Australia is the largest linen and textiles management and laundry operator in Australasia. Our Laundry plants manage the garment, textile and laundry requirements of customers in the essential services of healthcare and aged care together with the hospitality and accommodation sectors.
Your duties will include:
- Garment and Linen Repairs Repair torn, damaged, or worn garments and textiles.
- Replace zippers, buttons, press studs, and Velcro fittings.
- Patch holes and reinforce weakened fabric areas.
- Hem, alter, and resize garments as required.
- Quality Inspection
- Inspect garments and linen for defects during processing.
- Identify items unsuitable for repair and report to supervisors.
- Ensure repaired items meet quality and appearance standards.
- Sewing Machine Operation
- Operate industrial sewing machines and related equipment safely.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of sewing equipment.
- Report equipment faults promptly.
- Laundry Support
- Assist with sorting, folding, and processing textiles when required.
- Maintain workflow to meet daily production targets.
- Follow customer specifications and service requirements
- Workplace Safety
- Comply with workplace health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses.
- Record Keeping
- Document repair volumes and recurring garment defects.
- Track repairs where required by customer contracts or company procedures.
Skills and Experience:
- Essential Experience in garment alteration and repair.
- Ability to operate sewing machines.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to meet production deadlines.
- Desirable Previous experience in a commercial laundry environment.
- Knowledge of textile types and garment construction.
- Experience repairing uniforms, workwear, or healthcare linen.
